What a great group of people the Galatea Riding club are! They put on an awesome weekend of great riding, good company, great food and a fantastic venue.
I think Gus officially become a trekking pony this weekend. He was pretty good and coped with some quite challenging terrain on the second day really well.
Gus is a bit of a home boy however it seems and decided he could not eat his hard feed, then he didn't like the water but thankfully there was plenty of grass and I had taken him lots of hay as well.
Rainbow mountain is a pretty good climb for the horses
but the views from the top are well worth the effort.
Gus and Shadow, now the best of mates having been on a few day rides together and camp mates over the weekend.
Shadow is very experience at "camping out" and Gus surprised me by wanting to cling to Shadow wherever possible but he is also good that I can get him off on his own but he has a bit to learn still it seems about being a bit more independent when in unfamiliar territory.
There were a few people on this ride that I haven't seen since the Great NZ trek so it was great catching up with them again. It was great getting out on Gus, he gives me so much confidence and is very sensible really. He and I are going to have so much fun together!
