Matamata

Early start this morning to get away for the trek up the Kaimai ranges. The weather looked promising really and the views were HUGE!
This would have to be one of the bigger, one day rides I have been on yet with close to 100 riders. Quite a few children which was nice to see.
This young girl and her Grandad (on the black horse) were the highlight of the ride. She giggled her way round and her rapport with her Grand Father was something really amazing. She has been riding with him since she was 3 yrs old and happily canters off all over the place, down hill included. When the track got a bit tough he put her on a lead and her giggles were something I will remember for a long time.

Gus wasn't too keen on the mule that was part of this ride. He didn't cope at all well with having it tied up beside him so the owner kindly moved his mule. This worried Gus even more though as he couldn't see where it had gone and unfortunately the lunchbox cam off second best.

I don't think there is too much Gus won't eat. Cheese and vegemite and today egg sandwiches. It was getting pretty cold by lunchtime and the cloud was closing in.

A fairly fast trip back down to the floats and the weather was starting to get a bit damp. Mainly cloud and mist though so not too bad.
